Please consider making a donation to the Adult School Scholarship Fund. Help our students take a class that will enhance their ability to reach their professional, personal, and family goals. • Parents Helping Parents SLO - Provides a variety of free services and programs for families of children with special needs. Two lending libraries, which cover a wide variety of special needs topics, are also equipped with toys and games. PHP has a network of experienced staff and parents available for mentoring and support and a reliable source of current information, referrals, and training. PHP also regularly emails a Calendar of Upcoming Events to interested families.

• SLO Help Me Grow - A county-wide system that supports children and their families by providing free developmental screenings and linkage to services that promote optimal growth, offering outreach and education, including developmental milestone activity packets.

• National Association for the Education of Young Children - The NAEYC is dedicated to promoting excellence in early childhood education.

How much do Parent Participation classes cost?

Prices vary  based on the length of the class. Classes currently range in price from $75 to $154 for a 14 week    semester. Our summer session is typically 5 weeks. 

May I bring my child's sibling?

Younger siblings may join classes for an additional fee of $45 per semester.  When enrolling online, add "Sibling Fee" (under Product) to your cart.  There is no charge for infant siblings under the age of 12 months.

May nannies, grandparents, or other caregivers attend class with my child?

Yes, any adult in a parenting role is welcome to attend class.  

What if the class I want is full?

Always add yourself to the waitlist so we can determine our staffing needs. We do our best to accommodate everyone.

How can I register?

It's quick and easy to register online. You may also register over the phone 805.549.1222 or in person during office hours at the Adult School (1500 Lizzie St., Room H2, SLO).

May I visit a class and then decide if I want to register?

Yes! If there is space available in the class, you may visit once for free to check it out.   Please notify the office before you visit. 

Can I get a refund?

We know that with young children come many life and schedule changes. You may transfer classes during the semester at no cost, but once classes have begun, there are no refunds.

Do you prorate the class if I join late?

Although we do not prorate classes, we reduce classes to half price at the halfway point of the semester.  You will see this reflected on our website when you register after the halfway mark.  

What do you mean when you say that I’m the student, not my child?

Although both the adult and the child are students in the classroom, official enrollment must be in the adult's name, since we are an Adult School. 

May I bring my spouse or partner?

We encourage families to attend together, and there is no additional charge for an extra adult.  

Do you require children to be immunized?

Yes. As part of SLCUSD, and in order to prepare families for kindergarten entry in our district, our office checks CAIR (California Immunization Registry) for children attending classes. (Medical Exemptions must also be listed in CAIR.) Those with records that are not up to date or missing will be contacted by our office. I’m not sure which class to take. Can you help?

Classes are designed to fit specific developmental age ranges.  Please be sure your child is the age of the class by the first class meeting.  You may also reach out to the teacher (email addresses are on our staff page) to inquire about specific classes, as well as visit classes that have spaces available.   If you have additional questions, feel free to contact the office at 805.549.1222 or send an email to parentparticipation@slcusd.org.
